01Patios
What keeps a patio flat and draining
Most of a patio's life depends on what is under the slabs. A firm, compacted base stops it sinking, and a slight fall carries rain away from the house.
Size, shape and levels should be set out before any digging starts.
What a good job covers
- Digging out and levelling the ground
- A compacted base under the slabs
- Slabs laid with a fall for the rain
- Joints filled and the area cleaned down
02Fencing
What keeps a fence straight in the wind
A fence is only as strong as its posts. Set solid and in a straight line, they keep the panels or boards level and stop the run leaning.
Ask John which fence suits your garden and how high you want it.
What a good job covers
- The line and post spacing marked out
- The old fence taken down, if there is one
- Posts set solid in the ground
- Panels or boards fitted level
03Artificial grass
A lawn that stays green without a mower
Artificial grass only looks right on a good base. The old turf comes out, the ground is compacted and levelled, and the grass is joined and fixed so the seams and edges sit flat.
Measure the lawn roughly and John can tell you how it would go down.
What a good job covers
- Old turf and soil taken out
- A compacted, level base
- Grass laid, joined and trimmed
- Edges fixed tidy
